Tevye is a great boy and we want to make sure he goes to a home that will love him and give him the attention he wants. He is neutered, house broke and had his shots. He likes other dogs and cats.

CAN DOGS LEARN FROM OTHER DOGS? 10/17/2011
0 Comments

That is a question I can answer with a certainty!  Yes they can, especially
if its bad behavior.
I once had a dog who behaved pretty good until a friend brought her dog with her when she moved in with us. Her dog was a runner. When the door opened he bolted. Needles to say my dog learned that amazing trick. We had a hard time breaking him of that but we did.
They can learn from other dogs at dog parks, friends or even at a kennel while your away on vacation.
never underestimate your best friend

TEACH YOUR PETS NOT TO BEG 08/13/2011

How bad is it when you have visitors over for dinner and the pets go crazy while you are sitting at the table. They want a treat. You have given them one before maybe you will this time.
There are a few things to keep in mind. People food is not good for dogs. It can make them sick. Some foods are harmful to dogs, like grapes, raisins, walnuts, cooked bones and of course chocolate to name a few.
If you want to teach your dog not to beg you must NEVER feed them from your plate or when sitting at the table. You must ignore them. Don't even look at them, not even for a second. Don't talk to them, not even to say "NO"
You can put them in another room while you eat but that does not train them.
Every member of the family must be on the same page with this.
Remember..... no people food from the table OR your plate, if they do beg do not look at them or  talk to them. You must ignore them 100%
If you give in even just once you will be back at square one.
You must stay committed and consistant in

TRAVELING WITH DOGS 07/31/2011

Many of us are taking family vacations that include our beloved dogs. Here are a few tips for traveling with dogs.
Taking your dog with you on a road trip can be very enjoyable. Be sure to take along a bowl for food and water, a fresh bottle of water that they are used to is good as giving them water from other areas can give them a little upset in digestion. Dont forget the food, leash, any medications you will need for him and a nice place for your buddy to curl up when he is tired of looking out the window.
When looking for a vacation rental remember you may have to pay an extra fee and you will probably need a crate for when you have to leave him. You will also want to pack some of his favorite toys and treats.
I don't know why but not everyone likes dogs. Some may be allergic. Whatever the case its not hard to find a place to stay that welcomes pets. One place to search is WWW.PETSWELCOME.COM

The Benefits of Dog Ownership 07/17/2011

The benefits of owning a cavalier are immeasurable.
They are always there for you, ready for a hug when you need it or ready to play when you feel like it. They don't interupt when you need to talk they sit there,  listen and look at you with those big brown eyes.
They help you get your excersise when you take them on your walk, they lower your blood pressure when you give them a good scratch  and keep you company day and night.  I cant imagine life without my  dog they are the best.

Another warning about heat stroke 06/25/2011
0 Comments

The temperatures are nearing 100. Remember to keep an eye on your furry pals when they are playing outside.
The signs of heat stroke are: rapid pant, thick ropy saliva, bright red gums and a temp 104 or above. If the temp goes above 106 the dog may go into shock with organ shut down.
If you notice any of these signs time is of the essence.
Dogs that are overweight or older are more susceptible to heat stroke.
If you notice any of these symptoms first get the dog out of the heat/sun, if you suspect heat stroke get to the vet ASAP. On the way use cool rags to cool down the dog. For more information you can go to http://www.schnauzers-rule.com/heat-stroke-dogs.html
Please keep your dogs cool an safe this summer. when they go out to play dont leave them out to long. It only takes a few min. in sever heat.

SUMMER HEAT 06/02/2011

I just wanted to send out a reminder that summer heat can be a killer for dogs.
We have all heard reports of how hot a car can get in the summer. Please dont take your dogs along with you in the car if you plan on getting out and leaving them in the car.
Another thing to remember is even when the dogs are out in the yard playing they can overheat and die. Be watchful, dont leave them out to long and remember to always have water available.
